Klamath Basin Update

Klamath Basin Update

There are a many moving parts to the story about the Klamath Basin Restoration Agreement that Congress failed to pass the legislation in January of this year. Again leaving farmers and ranchers in the area without any certainty of what future water allocations they may receive. John Moxley rancher and hay producer from Bonanza shares more about the level of frustration and uncertainty of ag producers that rely on Klamath Basin water

Moxley: "The spud farmers here don't know if they will have water next year. It's the uncertainty is growing every year. Your whole livelihood, your whole background, your way to life is year to year because there is no certainty unless you have wells. That is the only thing that is not being attacked right now but they say that is next on the list is the wells. But the river water, the lake water — the Tribe has time and memorial on the Upper Klamath now — those people don't know if their wells are going to be shut off — those wells were affected. I was talking about the wells not affected by the Tribe. People around the Basin think it is a matter of time before other ranchers and farmers' wells —they will find a loophole to come after. When you have everything you own on the line every year — it is very stressful."
