Federal Agency Transparency Directed in Passed Bill

For all of us that have followed EPA's Water of the US as well as the completely anti-ag campaign, What's UpStream they funded -- the last week's passage of US House Bill 5226 — The Regulatory Integrity Act of 2016 is a positive step to help curb some of the previous blatant bias of federal agencies. Washington Congressman Dan Newhouse shares more details.

Newhouse: "The House approved some legislation that I was proud to be able to join in introducing with Mr. Tim Walberg of Michigan that prevents rule making misconduct by federal agencies. It would require that federal agencies provide transparency into the proposed rule process by posting in a central location all of the public comments that they issue during the rule stage. It prohibits agencies from lobbying or campaigning in support of proposed rules and establishes clear standards of that kind of activity. As you probably remember the What's Upstream campaign that was essentially an anti-farmer effort that used tax-payer funds provided by the Environmental Protection Agency. That is the kind of thing that we are working very hard to ensure that federal agencies do not engage in. I think that this legislation is an important step to reform the rules surrounding it."
