Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had about 2100 tons of hay trade this week. Compared to last Friday, all grades of export alfalfa was steady in a light test. Domestic feed alfalfa was weak in a light test. Trade was slow with light demand. Exporters were bracing for ocean freight increases for October and November. Retail/stable market hay steady in a light test. Alfalfa premium quality for export sold for $150 per ton on the mid-square bales. Orchard grass small square bales on the premium for the retail/stable market sold for $190 per ton.”
In Idaho compared the previous week all grades of alfalfa were steady. Trade was very active with good demand especially for Organic alfalfa and timothy hay. Mid squares of alfalfa rated good to premium sold between $100 and $115 per ton for export and those rated fair to good organic sold for $130 per ton. Timothy grass mid squares rated good sold for $140 per ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady compared to the previous week. In Central Oregon, small square bales of orchard grass rated premium sold between $230 to $250 per ton for the retail/stable market. In Lake County large squares or alfalfa rated premium sold for $170 per ton for export. In Klamath Basin large squares of alfalfa rated premium sold for $170 per ton. In Eastern Oregon large squares of alfalfa rated supreme sold for $140 per ton. In Harney County large squares of alfalfa rated fair sold for $105 per ton.
