09/15/05 Crop insurance deadline for wheat

Farm and Ranch September 15, 2005 Friday September 30th is an important date for Northwest wheat growers. Dave Paul of the regional office of USDA's Risk Management Agency says September 30th is the sales closing date for crop insurance for 2006 crop year wheat. Paul: "Producers between now and September 30th need to make some important changes if they elect to, on their wheat coverage going into the 2006 crop year and judging from the precipitation situation out there right now it is going to be some important decisions to make between now and September 30th." Paul hilights the choices wheat growers have. Paul: "Producers have some choices between our traditional, actual production history Multiple Peril policies that basically cover a producer for shortfalls of production, or one of a couple of different types of revenue insurance plans with Crop Revenue Insurance coverage being the most popular at this point of those revenue insurance plans. And those plans not only cover shortfalls of production but they also take into account market fluctuation." Paul says there were no significant changes in wheat polices for the coming crop year. He does say that today or tomorrow the projected price will be announced that is used to establish a producer's guarantee for the revenue insurance plans. September 30 is also the sales closing date for fall planted barley with winter coverage in selected counties in the region.
