Inspiring FFA Student Reaches for Dream

For a soon to be graduated high school senior, saying he had a lifelong goal to become a state officer might seem strange … but if you know Colton, Washington FFA Student Luke Moore — it makes perfect sense — as he explains.
Moore: “Having both of my parents as ag teachers — I’ve gone to 17 state conventions — so ever since I was 7-years-old actually being a state officer has been a goal of mine. So it something that I’ve wanted for a very long time.”
At the recent Washington State FFA convention, Moore was named the State Association Sentinel for the next year. That is pretty exciting — in addition to that he was also named one of the state’s two Presidential Scholars — of which there are 160 named throughout the country.
Moore gives encouragement to students who may be considering reaching for a position or a participating in a competition that they aren’t sure they can achieve … wise words for students and adults alike.
Moore: “My advice would be, ‘Don’t be afraid to try new things.’ Because if there is something that you really want to do like public speaking but don’t think you are a public speaker — put yourself out there. Be willing to fail. Be willing to do those things that you normally wouldn’t do as you strive to do better. Because if you aren’t willing to do it in the first place, you don’t have a shot of succeeding. So by putting yourself out there, you are opening yourself up to succeeding. And another thing I would say is, ‘Don’t be afraid to talk to people and ask for help.’ There are always people willing to help you. If you seek help from people around you, they will be willing to help guide you to where you want to be.”
