Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.

Sanders: "We had a little over 5,600 tons trade this week. Compared to last Friday, supreme and dairy alfalfa was steady in light test. Export alfalfa was also steady. Timothy for export was not tested. Supreme alfalfa sold FOB the farm at $200 to $225. Export hay good and premium sold at $160 FOB the farm. Small square alfalfa for the retail/stable market sold at $260 to $265 and orchard grass small premium retail/stable hay sold $260 to $275."

In Idaho compared to previous week, supreme, premium and good alfalfa is steady. Trade turned moderate last week as a few producers decided to let go some carryover from last year and two year old alfalfa. Large square bales of supreme alfalfa sold for $200 a ton, premium large squares of alfalfa sold for $180 per ton.

In Oregon, prices trended generally steady in comparison to the previous week. Export sales continue to be slow. In Central Oregon, small square bales of alfalfa rated premium were sold $250 per ton for the retail and stable market. In Eastern Oregon meadow grass small squares rated good sold between $175 and $180 per ton. In Klamath Basin supreme large square alfalfa bales sold for $210 per ton. In Harney County, large square bales of alfalfa rated supreme sold for $210.
