Extension Deadline for ARC or PLC Elections

Extension Deadline for ARC or PLC Elections

Of course on Friday after my Farm and Ranch reported the deadline of Tuesday for farmers to make elections of either ARC or PLC coverage — the USDA announced that they have extended the deadline by a week to April 7th. I wanted to be sure farmers were aware of deadline extension. Farm Service Agency Administrator Val Dolcini explains
Dolcini: “This additional week will give producers a little bit more time to have final conversations, review their data one more time and to visit their local Farm Service offices to make these important decisions.
The updating of base acres and yield acreage deadline has also been extended to April 7th.
He says besides the new election deadline of April 7, there are other reminders connected to the Agricultural Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage farm safety net programs.
Dolcini: “Secretary Vilsack said is an important decision for producers because these programs help farmers and ranchers protect their operation from unexpected changes in the marketplace. I want to remind everyone that if no changes are made to yield history or base acres by the deadline — the farm’s current yield and base acres will be used. And if no program choice is made between ARC and PLC there will be no 2014 crop year payments for the farm and the farm will default to PLC coverage for the balance of the Farm Bill. If a farmer has already contacted his or her FSA office and schedule and appointment with our staff then they have met their deadline.”
