Ag Big Data What is it?

Have you heard the term Ag Big Data? If you don’t know much about it today, you might want to learn more about it as it will be a game changer in agriculture moving forward. This data will help producers determine many, many decisions concerning input sections, farming practices even risk management to name a few.
Enterprise Group Limited President Doug Hackney shared at the recent Tri-State Grain Growers Convention that if you aren’t familiar with Ag Big Data — what it is and what it can do … it is definitely in your best interest to become more knowledgeable soon.
Hackney: “I think it is going to be very important for them moving forward as it relates to minimizing cost, maximizing revenue, minimizing input costs especially. There have been opportunities that have been identified of reducing input costs of 40 percent. DuPont thinks there is an upside potential of $100 an acre via Ag Big Data. Monsanto has stated that it thinks that there is an overall $20 billion upside just through the use of data. Data is going to be extremely important in the near term — not in the mid-term or the far-out future — but really in the near-term future in ag. It is really important for people to do some research on it. Do some searches, there is plenty of information out there on the web and also ag publications are starting to cover this topic as well.”
