Farm and Ranch June 2, 2005 Washington State University's annual Lind Dryland Research Station Field Day is next Thursday, June 9th. WSU research agronomist Bill Schillinger, says registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with plot tours at nine. Schillinger: "Scientists from WSU and USDA-ARS will discuss research progress on a number of topics including dryland cropping system studies, spring wheat breeding, winter wheat breeding, club wheat breeding and control of Russian thistle." Schillinger says James Cook, plant pathologist and interim dean of WSU's College of Agricultural, Human and Natural Resource Sciences will be giving a special presentation. Schillinger: "On his 40-years of research on cereal root diseases. And as you know this is his last year. Jim will be retiring now in a little less than two months." There will be a no-host lunch at noon with a program featuring an introduction of new WSU faculty members and brief reports from representatives of the Washington Association of Wheat Growers, the Washington Wheat Commission, WSU and elected officials. That's followed by an ice cream social and then Schillinger says; Schillinger: "And for those who really want to see some more research we have a field tour of our irrigated cropping systems project following the ice cream social." The field day is free and open to the public. Pesticide registration credits are available. I'm Bob Hoff and that's the Northwest Farm and Ranch Report on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
