Farm and Ranch January 11, 2005 The 8th annual Northwest Direct Seed Cropping Systems Conference is coming up January 13th and 14th at the Mirabeau Park Hotel and Convention Center in Spokane Valley, Washington. The event attracts growers from a four-state area including Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, and over 400 participants are expected to attend this year. The two-day conference includes over 20 speakers, general and concurrent sessions, and an indoor and outdoor trade show. This year's event is themed "Challenges, Solutions, Successes" and will include program topics such as emerging issues, international systems, soil stewardship and equipment and farming systems technology. Keynote speakers include the technical manager of the No-till Farmers Cooperative in Brazil and the Assistant Regional Coordinator for the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas from Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Concurrent sessions will feature growers from low, intermediate and high rainfall areas discussing their cropping systems. The conference begins at 10 a.m. on Thursday January 13th and concludes the next day at 4:30 p.m. Registration is 90-dollars in advance and 100-dollars at the door and includes a 2005 proceedings CD, conference sessions, two lunches, a breakfast, refreshment breaks and a social hour. The annual conference is sponsored by the STEEP program (Solutions to Economic and Environmental Problems) of the northwest's three land universities as well as the Agricultural Research Service and Pacific Northwest Direct Seed Association.
