Students are back in school this month and in Colorado, agriculture and it's lessons are following students into class.

The Colorado Departments of Agriculture and Education are hosting Colorado Proud School Meal Day on the 18th of September. Colorado Proud spokeswoman Wendy White says it is a day to educate school children about healthy eating and to celebrate Colorado agriculture.

"And we're encouraging schools to use local ingredients on their menus and teach kids about Colorado agriculture. We have a lot of great resources on our website at www.Coloradoproud.org "

The state agencies are partnering with ag groups across the state, including the Colorado Fruit and vegetable Growers Association, Egg Producers, Beef Council, Livewell Colorado. Rocky Mountain Farmers Union and 4-H.

White says agriculture will also make its annual trek to College this month.

Ag Day is a tradition since 1981. It is hosted by CSU's College of Agricultural Sciences along with Colorado agricultural groups. The pregame event features the state's ag growers and producers preparing Colorado's premier outdoor barbecue to fund scholarships for agricultural sciences students. This tradition honors both the institution's roots and Colorado's rich agricultural history.

The day culminates with CSU hosting Toledo. Go Rams.
