Colorado Cattlemen's Association Vice President says the organization is keeping an eye on the national trade picture but state policies have him even more concerned.

"Excluding market dynamics we think that the next ten years could be as challenging to the cattle industry in Colorado as any other time in our history."

CCA Vice President Terry Frankhauser tells Colorado Ag Today that he is optimistic about international trade opportunities such as expanding trade with China and Taiwan. And he's equally optimistic about the results of negotiations for the USMCA or "nafta part two".

"We produce 18-percent of the world's beef with 8-percent of the worlds cattle. And we can produce probably more in the coming years if those trade opportunities open up."

But Frankhauser says he sees little knowledge about farming and ranching in the current state leadership and he's calling on producers to do what they can to help breach the knowledge gap.

Wolf introduction, climate plans and soil health are issues where he says producers will have to share their practices with policy makers.
