The National Agricultural Statistics Service says the delayed Agriculture Census Report will be released in April.

Joe Parsons, Ag Statistics Board Chair says the long government shutdown meant the data crunchers weren't there to do the job of compiling all the information.

The Ag Census is held every five years and he says it's important to give his staff the time to give the complex data the proper attention.

The Census is a complete count of all the US farms and ranches and the people who operate them

Bill Meyer Director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) Mountain Region says getting the best information is more important that getting the report out fast.

"It really helps the agriculture community have great numbers in the census since it's used so much. It's good for rural Colorado and its good for rural America really."

The National Agricultural Statistics Service said assuming funding remains available , it plans to release the 2017 Census of Agriculture at noon on April 11.

The report was originally set to be unveiled at USDA's annual Agricultural Outlook Forum Feb. 21.
