The Colorado Department of Agriculture has tallied over $768,000 in grants for specialty crop projects in 2018.

Projects include $30,000 for an inbound trade mission of Caribbean buyers interested in Colorado fruits and vegetables.

$36,000 to develop strategies for Cytospora canker on Colorado peaches.

$40,000 to transform a greenhouse while teaching Pickens Technical College students state-of-the-art hydroponics that will produce fresh veggies for the Aurora Public Schools .

$25,000 to educate the public about the conservation benefits of sod

The USDA Specialty Crops program promotes crops that are usually not recipients of commodity payments such as corn and wheat.

In Colorado Specialty crops include fruits and vegetables, nuts, dried fruits, greenhouses horticulture and nurseries.
