Farm Bill
Still a work in progress.
The Chair of the House Agriculture Committee says he's frustrated that a new Farm Bill could not be agreed on by the House and Senate before the expiration at the end of September.
Congressman Michael Conaway was asked which parts of the bill were the sticking points.
"Literally all 12 titles have yet to be locked down. Even the more straightforward titles we simply can't come to policy agreements on. That's frustrating. But there are 12 titles and there are strong differences of opinion in each one. No one title dominates the lack of progress they're all slowly dragging along.
Conaway was also asked about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program perhaps the most talked about element of the bill.
"SNAP is among those things we've yet to resolve it's no bigger than Title 1 and Title 2 in conversations in terms of how far apart we are to try to get to what we want to get done."
Conaway says he's is not willing to talk about extending the existing Farm Bill because that would mean they'd given up. He is willing to work through the October recess. He says it appears the Senate is not as anxious to get the bill done.
