A couple of years ago at land management conference two women had a hallway conversation looking for ways to network with other women in the industry. That led to the first Women in Ranching Circle. Word spread and now "Women in Ranching's" third chapter is set to meet in Montana later this month.

The group has also joined forces with the Western Landowners Alliance.

Wendy Millet, Director of TomKat Ranch in California and a WLA board member, organized the initial "Women in Ranching" gathering as a way to promote the growth and support of women leaders on working landscapes.

"There are plenty of women who run active ranches. Some are active partners with their spouses. Some are widows and they are running their ranches by themselves. It's pretty much a hero's story that we've talked about during our time of Women in Ranching."

Millet and co founder Elaine Patarini, at Paicines Ranch in California know that women have always been in ranching and farming but traditionally have taken behind the scenes rolls. And it's networking that allows them to share their innovations and challenges.

The goal for Western Landowners was to share the large network of diverse groups so even in people who don't end up at a circle now have a way to get connected online.
