Many colorado Corn growers are taking efforts to conserve water and protect natural resources to incredible heights.

The Colorado Corn Growers Association and the Corn Growers Administrative Committee wants to draw attention to these farmers and their innovative ideas. For the second year, the groups will honor one farmer with the Colorado Corn Farm Stewardship Award.

Eric Brown with the Corn Growers Association:

“I think a lot of the general public doesn’t know how forward thinking a lot of these farmers are. Trying to protect the water and that it’s such an incentive to put in measures that protect the soil and water and hand their operation off to the next generation. Some people are taking these efforts to incredible heights and we just wanted to draw attention to that.”

Applications are due Nov. 17.

Brown says last year judges couldn’t agree on the winner so one farmer received an Excellence in Conservation award and another received a Stewardship Innovation Award.

The winner will be announced during the Colorado Corn Annual Banquet on Dec. 6 in Burlington. The winner will also receive the organizations' nominations for the National Corn Growers Association Good Steward Recognition, which is a national honor that includes a $10,000 cash pirze.
