Colorado Hosts Mexican Cattle Buyers at NWSS

By capitalizing on the recent National Western Stockshow and providing the opportunity for international cattle buyers from Mexico to visit Colorado ranches in addition to the stock, Colorado Department of Agriculture assisted ranchers in building relationships with these prospective buyers. Ashley Warsh, member of CDA's International Markets and Trade Development Team, says the Mexican cattle buyers trip was hosted through using U.S. Livestock and Genetic Export Funds.

Warsh: "We were able to create an event that would allow for Mexican buyers to come to the show to visit for a whole week. To meet with Colorado ranchers and attend a reception to discuss with them about their operations, their genetics, their livestock and to create relationships. So hopefully promote some business and create these strong relationships with Mexico. So we brought in10 buyers and they went to three ranches in north and eastern Colorado and met nearly 20 ranchers while at the show. We found it to be very beneficial. Our main goal was to help create these relationships, and maybe some potential sales to really promote some sales to Mexico."

She adds the the feedback from both buyers and prospective sellers was very positive.
