John Deere Acquires Precision Planting LLC

Earlier this week, a subsidiary of Monsanto, the Climate Corporation signed an agreement with John Deere for Deere to acquire the Climate Corp.’s Precision Planting LLC equipment business to enable near time data connectivity between certain John Deere farm equipment and the Climate FieldView platform. Climate Corporation Senior Vice President for Agronomic Services John Raines says
Raines: “Through Deere’s new priority technology called WDS or the Wireless Data Server — that climate app can directly connect with that implement and see that agronomic data that is occurring in the field whether it is seed population or other agronomic data that would be coming off that implement. Yield is a example in the combine. Be able to see it in the cab in real time and transfer it to the climate cloud and puts us in a position at that farmer’s choice for us to help them with science-based agronomic decision tools that we can create from those layers of data. What this has created is it has simplified that process greatly — in the sense of many farmers today have a iPad in their cab. They download that app — but there is other hardware that would in the past need to be connected to that system. Now though this collaboration that app can be directly to the WDS in that piece of equipment.”
