Getting Ready for the Summit

Getting Ready for the Summit. I'm Greg Martin with Colorado Ag Today.

The 2015 Protein Producer Summit and Annual Convention gets underway next Monday at Steamboat Springs and according to Colorado Cattleman's Director of Communications, Paula Waggoner, everything is full steam ahead.

WAGGONER: This meeting is a joint meeting of basically the premiere livestock associations in Colorado, both the Colorado Cattleman's Association and the Colorado Livestock Association. With it being both organizations certainly there's a huge representation from the beef industry but also dairy and pork producers will be there. The theme from this years event is "Technology and Innovation in Agriculture."

She talks about what important issues may come from the summit.

WAGGONER: There's several very important pieces to this. This is where we really talk about some of the really big issues that are facing Colorado beef production right now. Everything from the introduction of a bison herd in Colorado, certainly Country of Origin labeling will be discussed

The Colorado State water plan will also be a part of the discussions

WAGGONER: We anticipate private property rights to be a big issue this year as well as drones and rules and laws that will be developed to manage drone use.

Advance registration has already closed but Waggoner says you can register at the meeting. For more details visit their website, coloradocattle, org.

And that's Colorado Ag Today. I'm Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
