40th Colorado Water Workshop

40th Colorado Water Workshop

40th Colorado Water Workshop. I'm Greg Martin with Colorado Ag Today.

The 40th Annual Water Workshop is coming up June 24-25. Dr. Jeff Sellen with Western State Colorado University.

SELLEN: It is our 40th anniversary and we are taking that theme and running with it this year. Our title for the workshop is "Looking Back, Looking Forward: 40 Years with the Water Workshop." We're really focusing this year on the development of various issues in the water world and how those things have changed over the last 40 years and then from that point looking ahead to what we might expect from the future.

Dr. Sellen says the Workshop has developed a reputation as being a very informal setting to discuss these issues.

SELLEN: People can kind of take their ties off and unbutton their collars and deal with some pretty thorny water issues. Generally we do that in a real friendly way and so that's why people come and our main focus is Colorado but over the years we've certainly also dealt with southwestern issues , with national issues and global issues too.

He also says that the Workshop is not about east versus west.

SELLEN: We bring together people from across the state and originally I think there was a sense in the 1970's that west and east really needed to talk and that was the motivation for that and we really focused on bringing the two sides of the divide together to work through their issues.

And that's Colorado Ag Today. I'm Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
