A trapper's life. I ran into Patrick Carney of the Idaho Trappers Association at a Sportsman's Show. Trappers are often questioned in the court of public opinion and he said his group promotes ethical trapping. "Complying with all the laws, support trapping, making sure there are seasons on animals and there is a big enough population to trap. What is the most sought after animal in terms of trapping? Bobcats. Why? The price of them. In Canada they just had a sale and the top block bobcats went for a little over $3000. Nevada just had a sale and I think their top blocks were a little over $1600. That's for a full pelt? Yes. What about varmints? We trap lots of coyotes, beavers, muskrats, raccoons, Mink, Pine Marten and bobcats. Okay getting back to the court of public opinion, it turns out that the good folks at Sportsmen's Warehouse have all kinds of traps irrespective of what you're going after. However, they do sell what they call the Humane Way Standard Live Animal Trap running from $14.99 to $39.99. It's basically a one way door cage that you put a little bait into and the animal enters and can't get out. I've used them for squirrels in the backyard that were eating my outdoor furniture and they are very effective.
